"Etosha"...from the Oshindonga word meaning "great white place" brings to mind something fantastical and other worldly, and anyone who's been there knows what a remarkable place it is-a large dry lake in the wilderness of northern Namibia, fringed with isolated waterholes and a huge variety of African wildlife. Giraffe have a special place here and sometimes drift in large herds across the dry landscape, seeming to follow one another from one place to the next; and there are always ostrich, those large flightless birds who wander singularly or in flocks across the savannah.
